Elegido gobernador del estado de Texas en 1994 y reelegido en noviembre de 1998. En diciembre de 2000 se convirtió en el 43º presidente de Estados Unidos. En octubre de 2001 ordenó la intervención militar estadounidense en Afganistán y en marzo de 2003 en Irak. Fue reelegido en 2004.
